Scripture: “And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.” Matthew 1:19
Observation: I don’t often think of the character of Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus. Not much is said about him in Scripture, but I think that this one verse says all that needs to be known about him.
He was a just man, and even though he could have publicly humiliated Mary, he was unwilling to put her to shame. This situation was so much different than what happens in today’s society. Mary could have been put to death for this crime. Joseph decided to secretly put her away without revealing the cause.
Application: In just a snippet of Scripture we see what kind of man Joseph was. Our life on the Earth is just as brief. What kind of legacy will we be leaving behind? Are we just? Do we stand for what is right and good? Are we generous? Do we daily model our walk after His?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you so much for another day to do better, to grow as a child of yours. Please help me in the areas I struggle with, and those that I fail in. Help me build on the things that I do well. Help me to remember daily that I am to shine your light to all around me, and walk justly. Amen.
I hope you will join me over at Mom’s Toolbox in the study of the Gospels. It will be our study for the next three months, and then we will be starting B90Days again July 11th.
