Christian Kids Explore Biology

I have been curious about the Christian Kids Explore Series for awhile now, and was so happy to be able to review it for TOS. This Biology curriculum is brought to you by Bright Ideas Press, which is a popular and fabulous homeschooling company. {Our oldest used their Mystery of History.}

Christian Kids Explore Biology consists of 35 lessons, with each lesson designed to be completed per week. There are two main components of each lesson: Teaching Time and Hands-On Time.

For Teaching Time, you can read the lesson, your child can read the lesson, or your child can color one of the many fabulous coloring pages while you read. My children love to color or draw while I read lessons, and it helps them focus and retain more. I love that this curriculum includes this!

After a lesson is over, your child will fill out a Daily Reading Sheet. I love this, as it serves as reinforcement, as well as future review if needed. The daily reading sheets are also encouraged for supplemental reading, which will  also be helpful if you keep a portfolio!

Each lesson also has Hands-On Time, which should be completed separately from Teaching Time day. I can’t tell you how much I lack creativity in this area, so I am thankful for curricula that include it. You’ll find complete materials list for each unit, so you can prepare in advance-you can tell this was written by a homeschool mom!

There are numerous reproducible forms available in the appendix, as well as memorization lists, Scriptures to memorize, an ABC Animal Book, recipes and supplemental activities. There are also book and resource lists and an answer key.

At the end of each unit you’ll find Show What You Know  which is usable as either a test or review. My favorite part of the Show What You Know- the 10,000 points possible for each correct answer without using the book, and 5,000 possible for each answer used with the book that is right. That is just fun!

There are tons of extras, while keeping the lessons short enough to be very Charlotte Mason friendly.

I appreciate the optional unit on human reproduction, which is very conservative, not graphic at all, with lots still left for the parents to go into. I worry about what will be said, and there is nothing in here that is troublesome to me at all. All the details are spared. One thing that is mentioned I was so happy to find, is that the process {which is never described} was designed by God for married people.

Christian Kids Explore Biology was designed for grades 3-6, but can be made suitable for younger or older students. You can purchase your copy for $34.95 at the Bright Ideas Press  website, where you may also see a preview of the curriculum.

You can read what other TOS moms are saying about this curriculum, as well as the other titles by visiting The Homeschool Crew Blog.

    Any chance you still have this and want to sell your copy? I’m about to order it (I’m on the TOS Crew too, but didn’t get this review). Thought I would check. I am so glad to hear your love for it though! My 1st grader has covered most the topics, but not in an actual curriculum. I’m hoping to go through this and do the next one for 2nd grade!

    Thanks for the review! Have you used or reviewed the earth and science book? Wondering which one would be more appropriate for my 1st and 3rd graders.

    I have the General Science book in this series. I haven’t used it, but have skimmed through it and I love how it’s laid out. It’s not overwhelming like some other choices out there.
