Pearson Homeschool-enVision Math

Pearson Homeschool has a brand-new homeschooling site available, with not only homeschooling curriculum, but also many homeschooling helps. The Crew was able to review several different titles, and I personally was sent enVision Math.

This hardback textbook is very nice, with an attractive and sturdy cover. The text itself is well laid out and easy to navigate. EnVision Math has twenty topics, which are then subdivided into lessons.

The sixth grade text that I received has lessons covering topics including:

  • numeration
  • variables, expressions, and properties
  • number and fraction concepts
  • decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers
  • adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers
  • multiplying fractions and mixed numbers
  • dividing  fractions and mixed numbers
  • integers
  • solving proportions
  • percents
  • measurement
  • data and graphs, and much more

Before the lessons even begin there are some helpful sections that your student will find useful, such as problem solving lessons and a “Problem-Solving Handbook”.

I feel that the layout of the book is excellent, the pictures are beautiful, and the flow is well laid-out. The enVision Math Grade 6 homeschool bundle includes:

  • student text
  • MindPoint Quiz Show CD-ROM
  • Teacher Edition CD-ROM

The homeschool bundle is available for $99.99

The support materials are very nice, but I would prefer the teacher manual to be in print as well. On the other hand, I am sure the CD-ROM saves some cost to your homeschool budget.

For my child, who is not as strong in math as other subjects, this curriculum was a struggle. I do not believe the curriculum is lacking, but is a little more advanced than she is. I wish I had requested a different level, but know we can always work up to it. We homeschool year-round, so without the need for review at the beginning of each school year, I know we will be ready for it soon.

How exciting! We have been using enVision Math for the last 3 years. My daughter tried a public charter school option her 4th grade year; it did not work out and we’ve since gone back to conventional homeschooling, but enVision Math was the very best thing that could have come out of the experience! We’ve been buying used textbooks from Amazon and using an online version of the public school teacher’s manual that I found an access key for. It’s not ideal, but it’s worked. Figures that just as she’s aging out of the program, they release a homeschool version! I’ll definitely consider purchasing for my younger kids, though. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for sharing! My son wants to switch to this curriculum after helping me review the 3rd grade level. (He’s going into sixth.) I stopped by from the crew to read your review to see if the 6th grade was laid out much differently, but it sounds about the same.

I was JUST thinking about this kind of math program today! I remember the 3rd grade math book/workbook that one of my son’s had before we withdrew him from school. I really liked it because of the skill level, text and colorful pictures. I’ve wanted something like that since, but didn’t know how to find it w/o having to be a school.

    Thanks for this review!
