First Corinthians contains some pretty deep stuff. It seems that there is so much inside these chapters that a majority of the Christian community does not adhere to. The verses today are no exception.
Scripture:
To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife.
1 Corinthians 7:10-11
Observation:
This is not my ideal for marriage, it isn’t even Paul’s ideal. This one man and one woman for life ideal for marriage comes from the Lord.
Application:
Divorce is such a common thing now. It used to be something that was rare, and looked down upon. This is becoming very common with so much that the Bible calls sin- once seen as sin and now paraded about like a medal.
Marriage was made for life.
No for better, or for richer, or for most attractive.
For life.
Marriage is sacred and God-given.
Scripture gives us one reason to divorce:
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Matthew 5:32
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please be with those who do not honor Your Will. Things are so upside down in our world right now. Help me walk with You, even when it is tough, lonely, and hard to see the good. Thank you for Christ, who shows us the way. Amen.

Great post Sam! Found you on the R16:16 blog hop. My wife and I often talk about this. We have known each other since we were 5 and feel that a happy home is built on God, trust and friendship. When we got married we knew it was a life-long commitment. Christian couples must work hard to overcome the attitude of ‘disposable marriages’ and the romanticized vision of marriage in entertainment.

Thanks for this post… it is sad to see so many brothers and sisters in the Lord giving up on their marriages – we need as many reminders as we can get to CHERISH our mate that God has blessed us with! :)

Oh Sam, you are so right! I recently found out that my sister has divorced my BIL. I am so saddened by this and wish I could have helped her to understand the truth of the choice that she made. But she wouldn’t listen to me. :(
